"I'm really knocked out with it," Fogerty said of the remake, expressing a deep admiration for the Foo Fighters that extends back to Dave Grohl's start in grunge music.

Read the full story right here on Rolling Stone, and watch their exclusive behind the scenes footage of the making of "Fortunate Son."

You can pre-order the album here now, oniTunesAmazonprior to the release on May 28th.

From www.johnfogerty.com
Tue, 14 May 2013 10:20:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/147731Be a Part of the "Almost Saturday Night" Video!

In 1975, John released the song "Almost Saturday Night" as a single on his second solo albumJohn Fogerty. Their answers below! Congratulations to these five and thanks to everyone who submitted their answers.

1. GRAND PRIZE WINNER - Allyson T.

Receiving: Platinum bundle - Wrote A Song For Everyone CD, Vinyl, Hatch Show Poster, Hard Cover Journal with John Fogerty Pen, Fortunate Son Flannel Shirt, Fortunate Son Guitar Pick, 11X14 Poster of "Proud Mary"

ANSWER: "My dad always played CCR when I was growing up and I love their music just as much now. Our favorite song together was Suzie Q, and still today we both sing that song like we recorded it with John. John Fogerty wrote "Suzie Q." just for me because he knew this song would help keep my dads spirits up since he has been diagnosed with cancer. This song will always be a great memory of me and my dad dancing around when I was little."

2. RUNNER-UP - Joe C.

Receiving: Wrote A Song For Everyone CD

ANSWER:"Choosing just one John Fogerty is nearly impossible! But if I have to go with one personally, its Rock And Roll Girls. I live in Buffalo, NY for one thing (if I had my way...Id shuffle off to Buffalo)! My High School Sweetheart and I broke up in our Senior Year, 1984. Fast forward to 1988. I am at a bar and "Rock And Roll Girls" starts playing. At that instant I turned around and saw my ex with a bunch of her friends. That moment was the beginning of our re-introduction. We were married in 1996 and now have 3 children. We even met John at a meet and greet in 2006 at Darien Lake. Johns music has always played a major role in the soundtrack of my life, and that song began my journey again with the woman I love."

3. RUNNER-UP - Bill M.

Receiving: Wrote A Song For Everyone CD

ANSWER:"Probably I saw it on TV from the Centerfield album. I remember being a young child in the 60s, watching the Funerals of Bobby Kennedy, MLK. Vietnam casualty statistics, Cronkite, Huntley & Brinkley. That song really paints a picture of vivid memories that I have from that time."

4. RUNNER-UP - Ray M.

Receiving: Wrote A Song For Everyone CD

ANSWER:"I Will Walk With You.My favorite memory of it is still to be created. Ill walk my daughter down the aisle to this song when she gets married in August."

5. RUNNER-UP - Thomas G.

Receiving: Wrote A Song For Everyone CD

ANSWER:"Lodi. Urban brings a new blast of energy with his guitar, banjo and unique sound. John said Keith, "is an incredible monster musician, probably the greatest musician on this record."

The respect is mutual for these two musicians. In Keiths interview below he describes the emotions that took place in the studio while recording "Almost Saturday Night." He says, "Theres nothing like being in the studio, youve got the headphones on, and suddenly theres Johns voiceThat was a real magical moment for me."

The two had the "best time doing this song," and the finished product shows it. John recalls, "She said yes, or maybe she said 'hell yeah!'"

We now have exclusive behind-the-scenes studio footage of Miranda and John recording this song together. Miranda discusses what it was like working with "rock royalty" on a song so near and dear to his heart saying, "no one else can write songs like John Fogerty, much less sing like him."

Lambert grew up listening to two things: country music and Creedence Clearwater Revival. She considers his music "timeless" and covers a CCR song during every one of her own sets. Now the two artist's careers have collided and they're able to do what they both love the most together.

Tom Morello, Rage Against the Machine guitarist, also joins the two of them on this track following Lambert's suggestion to insert a "face-melting guitar solo!" Originally, John thought, "'I'll do a solo like Tom Morello.' That lasted about half a nanosecond." That's when they decided to bring in Tom Morello, and the track was born.

Get a glimpse at the work that went into the making of the duet, and hear bits of the track "Wrote A Song For Everyone" for the first time below.

You can pre-order the album on iTunes or Amazon prior to the release on May 28th!

From www.johnfogerty.com
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 07:15:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/139321John Talks About 'Wrote A Song For Everyone'

When John was approached with the idea to "get a bunch of the people that you really love and do your songs," his new album Wrote A Song For Everyone came to life. I have been asking myself that very same question for many many years. I love Green River, Down On the Corner, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, and Lookin Out My Back Door, just to name a few. I remember exactly whereI was standing in my living roomwhen KMET, a Los Angeles radio station, played my favorite John Fogerty song. It was in early Janurary 1985, a couple of days after the release of the LP Centerfield. I had already heard The Old Man Down the Road and Rock N Roll Girls. At nine that morning, I heard the title track Centerfield for the first time and I jumped up and almost hit my head on the ceiling. I love everything about that song. I have enjoyed Johns music ever since I was 12 years old and I also love baseball. I waited almost ten years for his new record and it was a great time for me. I was able to attend baseballs Hall of Fame Inductions a few years agowhen MLB honored John and his contribution to thegame for his song Centerfield. I will always treasure that moment.

B. Janine Morison from Los Angeles, CA

Favorite all time song is "Centerfield." Why? Its a timeless, heartfelt song that touches my soul every time I hear it, regardless if its the thousandth time Im listening to it. There is a reason its always played at baseball games: it captures the heart and soul of what it feels to be American. Now, Im not a flag-waving sort of person, but I always get a little emotional and fight back a tear when I hear that song. So rarely are there songs that stand the test of time like this one. It has never aged, and will always be a defining rock song that appeals to all generations. My husband first explained the golden warmth and heart of that song to my son when he was a mere 5 years old, and while my son, now 15, has his own likes for music, Centerfield is the song that is something that joins him and his father in a musical bond that will last all my sons years, and I suspect, will be passed on to our grandchildren.

So many of John Fogertys songs are nothing less than brilliant. You know that when you listen to them for the first time and every song feels like youve always had that song in your collective memory. Why, because Fogertys songs are archetypical in nature. He taps into our collective subconscious and we respond because we are able to get something from his music that reaches deep into our souls and remains a part of our being.

Truth be told, my husband, son, and I love so much of Fogertys work; every song on the album "Revival" is brilliant and like classical music of Mozart, its deceptive in what at first appears a simple lyric or musical phrase, but its really true genius at work to make it seem so natural at what is not really a simple thing to do... write lyrics and music that appear effortless and yet are deep, thoughtful, and musically sophisticated on a deep level.

While I may not win the tickets (for my husband) to Johns concert in LA next week, its a pleasure to have the opportunity to convey just how important I think John Fogerty is to the music world. In these difficult times, its without reservation that I turn to music to get me through days that are filled with complications and stress.

Please tell Fogerty his audience is listening, always, and we care very deeply about his music.

David from Huntington Beach, CA

My favorite song written byFogerty is "Fortunate Son." The reason this is my favorite out of all of his great songs is actually a very interesting storythat goes all the way back to 1969 andbegins with my father. My father was attending Kent State in Ohio in 1969 when "Fortunate Son" came outand his sentiments regarding the Vietnam war were starting to change, and"Fortunate Son" was one of the key, influential songs that began to aid my father in his changing views on the war and help get him involved in anti-war activism.

By May 4th, 1970 my father was fully involved in student activism and was on the field that fateful day when the National Guard fired on students and activists. One of mys close friends, Alan Canfora, was shot in the wrist that day (he is the man holding the blackflag on the field that day, a very famous picture) and changed my Dads life completely. Without "Fortunate Son" and other anti-war songs such as Country"Fish Cheer," my Dad would not have had such a directto do something about the war, and ultimately get involved inthe music businesslater ondown the road.

Fast forward to a few years ago when the Iraq war started and I began stealing my Dads CSNY, Country Joe, and most importantly CCR records, with"Fortunate Son" immediately standing out as one of my favorites.I had no idea about my fathers activist past or hispresence at the Kent State shootings. It was something he had never talked about with me before. One day,he came in to my roomwhen I was listening to "Fortunate Son" and started to mention how it was his favorite Fogerty tune and began to tell me someof those stories from his past. The stories were so moving that it was the first stepping stone of me following in his footsteps, joining a local anti-war protest group and ultimately following his footsteps in the music business.

"Fortunate Son" was an incredibly large part of both my life and and my fathers, andwas the impetus forboth of us pursuing music as a way of life and to protest unjust war efforts by the countrywe live in and love. I have never seen John Fogerty live, and neither has my father, and although he is justappearing as partof the SoundCity Players show, it would be incredible to just hear him play even one songand bring my Dad along to the showto have that experience with him.

"Fortunate Son" has become such a massiveinfluence on both my father and I that I cannot think of a single song that embodieswhat my favorite song of all time would be better than that one.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this and putting this contest together.I love it when artists do great things for their fans and Dave Grohl isfor bringing John Fogerty in to this! Cant wait to see the documentary either!

From www.johnfogerty.com
Tue, 29 Jan 2013 12:45:00 -0800http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/125981Ticket Giveaway for the Hollywood Palladium

Two lucky Fogerty fans will each win a pair of tickets to the Sound City Players show on Thursday, January 31 at the Hollywood Palladium. The songwriter and lead singer-guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival rose to fame by combining southern blues, soul, country, folk and rockabilly influences, and some Little Richard, with Louisiana swamp pop and fanciful bayou imagery. Eschewing the psychedelia dominating his San Francisco-area birthplace for tight, hook-heavy tunes that evoked simpler times (Born On The Bayou, Green River, Down On The Corner) or even carefree whimsy ( Out My Back Door), he also spoke for a generation rebelling against fighting a fruitless war (Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son, Someday Never Comes).

To read the full article go to AmericanSongwriter.com

From www.johnfogerty.com
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 12:53:00 -0800http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/124281John and Foo Fighters Perform "Fortunate Son" at Sundance
Make sure you watch the full video by clicking HERE

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sun, 20 Jan 2013 08:36:00 -0800http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/123701Just Wrapped Up Album "Wrote A Song For Everyone"
Hangin in Park City after Rockin with Foo Fighters

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sat, 19 Jan 2013 16:06:00 -0800http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/123671Sound City Players Add Los Angeles Show

The Sound City Players will live to play another day: The massive supergroup helmed by Dave Grohl and featuring rock luminaries including Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty will play a one-off show at Los Angeles Hollywood Palladium on January 31st, the same night Grohls documentary Sound City makes its theatrical debut at the Cinerama Dome.

Read more: RollingStone.com Follow us: @rollingstone on Twitter | RollingStone on Facebook

From www.johnfogerty.com
Thu, 17 Jan 2013 13:52:00 -0800http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/123061Dave Grohl Taps John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks for Sound City Players Sundance Gig

The lineup for the Sound City Players has been revealed. Fogertys private and professional journey is one of the great sagas in American music, and his book will interweave the facts of his life with the music that emerged from his personal joys and battles. This includes his time as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist for one of the most beloved and successful rock bands of all time, Creedence Clearwater Revival. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Fogerty wrote hit after hit, including Proud Mary, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Down on the Corner, ll Stop the Rain, Fortunate Son, Up Around the Bend, Run Through the Jungle, Long as I Can See the Light, Born on the Bayou, and so ondistinctly American songs that coalesced the strong emotions running through a nation at war in Vietnam. His solo career includes the album Centerfield, as well as Grammy Awardwinning records and award-winning tours. John Fogerty sits beside a handful of musical songwriting legends. He was a hit maker, and he is one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time.

Fogerty will write about the pressures of sudden fame, his tumultuous relationships with his bandmatesincluding his brother, Tomand his long and costly battle for creative freedom from his record label, a battle that was taken all the way to the Supreme Court. Crushed by how the record label victimized him, he was forced to walk away from it all while they were the number one band in the world. I want to tell the story of how I foughtto maintain my artistic integrity in the face of opposing forces. He will also discuss his inspirations, including meeting his wife, Julie, and eventually building a family with her, which brought him back to music. He will also look forward to where his journey will take him next, including his forthcoming album Wrote a Song for Everyone, due in 2013, and upcoming collaborations with the Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Kid Rock, and Dawes.

John Fogerty said, The kid from El Cerrito wanted to be the best musician in the worldmy promise to myself. I accomplished that goal against all odds, only to have it fall apart on top of me. The songs and the music stopped; you didnt hear from John Fogerty for years. All of this took its toll on me. I couldnt write a song, sing a song. And it was so hard on me, all of the lawsuits and betrayals. I was personally fading away. My story will share the ups and downs and how it all affected me. The road back was a bumpy one, and I knew that it would take years to come out of it, but I did. Happily, I did, with my dear wife, Julie, by my side.

I have come to a place where I can look back and reflect on those stories and share what really happened. I am the guy who lived it, and you will hear me tell the story for the first time. Michael Pietsch said, John Fogertys musical originality and determination have nourished us all for years. It is an honor to work with him to bring the full story of his music and his life to his millions of admirers at last. I cant wait.

Little, Brown acquired world rights from Laura Nolan at Paradigm Agency. The audiobook will be read by John Fogerty and published simultaneously by Hachette Audio. The book will be edited by Little, Brown executive editor John Parsley.

About John Fogerty
The singer, songwriter, and guitarist has sold over 100 million records, earning eighteen gold and ten platinum records. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, won the Grammy Award for his album Blue Moon Swamp in 1997, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. That same year, they played Woodstock and, although they declined to be included in the film, they were allegedly the second highest-paid act on the bill after Hendrix. Nor was their success confined to America. In 1971, Creedence succeeded The Beatles as top group in the annual NME poll.

PORTERVILLE
Released: January 1968 (didnt chart)
From: Creedence Clearwater Revival (July 1968)
Fogerty: I went into the army in early 67, and they got you marching all day out on an asphalt parade field about a mile square. And during all that marching, I would get delirious, and my mind would start playing little stories. They all seemed to be sort of swampy and Southern, in the woods and with snakes; Brer Rabbit, Mark Twain, a great old movie with Dana Andrews and Walter Brennan called Swamp Water. So I ended up writing the song while Im stomping around in the sun. Its semi-autobiographical; I touch on my father, but its a flight of fantasy, too. And I knew when I was doing it, Man, Im on to something here. Everything changed after that. I gave up trying to write sappy love songs about stuff I didnt know anything about, and I started inventing stories.

SUZIE Q
Released: August 1968 (peak US chart position 11)
From: Creedence Clearwater Revival
At the time, there were a lot of songs by the Dead, the Airplane where it got very boring for many, many minutes. If were gonna have some 15-minute jam, Id rather hear some guys that can really play, if you know what I mean. So, since the guys in Creedence were not world-class musicians, I would arrange the song so that it kept movement going. Having that structure, but at the same time having these people that were obviously kids in this charming, unpretentious little band, it made for some intimate or vulnerable-sounding music. Once I got to the point where I understood that the arranger in the band was far ahead of the musicians in the band, it just snapped into shape. Three months before we recorded Suzie Q, we sounded like your average, low-on-the-totem-pole bar band which is what we were. I just kind of grabbed the reins, and it shaped up our ragtag little band into something that sounded pretty good very quickly. We werent whizz-bang, world-class virtuosos, and our strength was in the groove we could create together.

Suzie Q was far out kinda startling for that time. So Saul [Zaentz], in his wisdom, said, Maybe I should have you guys record an album. So we did some of the cover songs that wed been doing, like [the Wilson Pickett hit] Ninety-Nine And A Half and [Screamin Jay Hawkins] I Put A Spell On You. So then I was off and running as producer/arranger. Its remarkable that a 23-year-old was now the producer of what was about to be the worlds biggest band. I got to run the show because there was nobody at Fantasy that had a clue. When Suzie Q hit, there were two people at the label, and I had recently been one of them I was a shipping clerk in 65 and 66. Also from Creedence Clearwater Revival: I Put A Spell On You b/w Walking On The Water (October 1968; peak US chart position 58).

PROUD MARY b/w BORN ON THE BAYOU
Released: January 1969 (peak US chart position 2)
From: Bayou Country (February 1969)
The first album came out on my 23rd birthday, May 28, 1968, and we were off and running as Creedence, but still kind of a second-on-the-bill act. But all through that time, Im writing very busily. This was where all that evolution very dramatically occurred in me. Ive seen science-fiction movies where the guys head suddenly doubles in size; thats actually what occurred to me. All that stuff all that imagery, that Southern lore, all that fable stuff thats in the songwriting, starting with the name and the plaid shirt was going on in me, and the other guys were still the bar band.

Bayou Country really stated what Creedence Clearwater Revival was and should be. There were hints of it on the first album. The singin is good, and the band plays well; it just doesnt sound as authentic as Stax. But Bayou Country just lands very authoritatively. The title track, with that droning chord and that whole spooky thing, thats such a great opening. And the cover shot, which was just by accident, was spooky and undefined, and it did nothing to dispel the vision.

Because I was writing this is late 67 and early 68 it occurred to me one day that what I liked was song titles. So I went down to the drugstore in El Cerrito at the mall, and I went and got myself a cheap little notebook, and I made myself a title page that said Song Titles [laughs], and the first thing I wrote was Proud Mary. I looked at it and said, what does that mean? Maybe its like a domestic worker, a maid.

Then I began to write some melody. The flow sounded good, but I had no idea what it was about. So I go back to the song-title book and Proud Mary is sittin there, and dang if it didnt sound like a paddle wheel goin around. I said, Man, that sounds like a riverboat! Now, thats the magic, the myth, the voodoo of this whole deal. I began to write the song the story of that boat, Proud Mary. It was the central character. Thats exactly how it happened; its no more mythical than that.

We went into RCA in Hollywood, Studio A, to record Bayou Country in October [1968]. We had the music for Proud Mary recorded, and I knew what I wanted the backgrounds to sound like. I showed the other guys how to sing the backgrounds, having remembered what wed sounded like on , which was very ragged, not melodious, and I had this beautiful harmony sound in my head, kinda like what the old gospel groups would do. And I heard our tape back, and I just went, Nahhh, thats not gonna work. So we had a big fight over that. I said, m gonna sing all the parts cause Id been doin that for years with my tape recorder at home, and I knew harmony, and the other guys, frankly, did not. We literally coulda broke up right there. I was well aware of the sophomore jinx; I did not want to go back to the car wash. I actually made that speech: If the second one stinks, were a one-hit wonder. Instead of delving into the underground, my Elvis-and-Beatles upbringing came directly into play. And I was able to write songs that would go on Top 40 radio, because thats what I had wanted to do since I was four. I wanted to make hit singles; I thought that was my job. At the conclusion of Proud Mary, I even said to myself, Wow, thats my first standard.

BAD MOON RISING b/w LODI
Released: April 1969 (peak US chart position 2)
From: Green River (September 1969)
Proud Mary and Bayou Country were in the US Top 10 by February [1969], so I knew we needed another single. It was in my mind, at least, to compete with The Beatles.

I had the phrase Bad Moon Rising written down in my song-title book. I thought back from that to an old movie Id seen called The Devil And Daniel Webster [1941]. Its about this man who sells his soul to the devil to have greater rewards here in this life, and one night there was this terrible hurricane, and the man is cowering in his barn. In the morning, he looks over at his neighbours yard, and all the corn is just squashed down, and everythings totally destroyed. And, right at the fence line, where his property is, the corn is standing straight up, peaceful and untouched. That just seemed so spooky, the idea of an epochal force nature, or the devil, or whatever thats gonna get you. Later, people began to point out, Hey, John, youve got this song about death and doom, but its this bouncy little thing. And Id go, I just didnt worry about that part. The scariness of the words seemed to be telling enough; the cool music was gonna put it across. When youre a very tuned-in young person, youre tied to everything that affects your generation. So I think [that some social commentary] was in there...

On , I saw a much older person than I was, cause it is sort of a tragic telling. A guy is stuck in a place where people really dont appreciate him. Since I was at the beginning of a good career, I was hoping that that wouldnt happen to me.

GREEN RIVER b/w COMMOTION
Released: July 1969 (peak US chart position 2)
From: Green River
After Bayou Country, I began to feel I had the freedom or power to do what I wanted. And where I went, starting with Bad Moon Rising, was right to my emotional, musical core, which was very resonant of Sun Records. Green River was my favourite song from the Creedence era, because it really had the whole Sun Records vibe to me and the album, too. The barefoot boy with a cane pole down by the river it seemed to have that feel all over that album. My own personality really came to the fore. When I was 7, 8 years old, I started collecting titles, and Green River came from sitting at the counter at the drugstore a block-and-a-half from my house in El Cerrito. They served soft drinks, and behind the counter was a big bottle of Green River, which was a syrup. On the label there was this artists rendering of a sunset behind a little creek. I said, Green River thatd be a cool song. Someday I should grow up and write it.

Green River was a true place. It just seemed very Southern in nature, although it happened to be a place in Northern California. It was where my parents took the family on summer vacation, a two-room cabin. The creek, Putah Creek, was no more than 15 or 20 feet from the back door, and there was a rope hangin from the tree. I discovered pollywogs the first time I went underwater. It was quite a strong memory. Here, nearly 60 years later, its still quite a strong memory of I dont know discovery, independence.

I didnt think was social commentary, cause all this stuff was just in the air. I realised it wasnt Blue Suede Shoes, but, trust me, if I couldve written Blue Suede Shoes, I wouldve sold my soul for it. But I was writing about what was in the air, and that was what came out of me. I was just doing what came naturally.

DOWN ON THE CORNER b/w FORTUNATE SON
Released: October 1969 (peak US chart position 3)
From: Willy And The Poorboys (December 1969)
Fortunate Son is a very powerful anti-war message, but even more so, its an anti-class-bias message. The injustice of having a few ruling a working class, or middle class, of many, who are actually doing all the work and creating all that wealth. When I sing it now, it still says it as well as I could ever want to say it. Its not just some old song that I sing; it still has teeth. I daresay its one of the better examples of that genre to come out of the 60s. And its still applicable right now. Our president [George W Bush] is probably the most fortunate of all fortunate sons.

Down On The Corner is just a good song. In 95 per cent of my shows, when we get to Down On The Corner, the entire audience is as one. Its the one that really transcends.

TRAVELIN BAND b/w WHOLL STOP THE RAIN?
Released: January 1970 (peak US chart position 2)
From: Cosmos Factory (July 1970)
Band was my salute to Little Richard, but ll Stop The Rain? was part of the fabric of the times. From 68 to 74, Vietnam was probably the most important thing on the minds of young people. So there was the dichotomy of old people saying one thing and young people feeling quite another thing and therefore not trusting old people, starting with the government, Richard Nixon, and his position on the war. Nixon would say this baloney By the way, this morning, on CNN, you could watch George W Bush doing the same thing Anyway, rain being an elemental and inescapable reality, that was the context into which I was putting all this baloney.

UP AROUND THE BEND b/w RUN THROUGH THE JUNGLE
Released: April 1970 (peak US chart position 4)
From: Cosmos Factory
I put a little music room in my house in late 69, and I was up there with a guitar, fiddling around with a lick from [Marty Robbins] White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation). Later, I was out on my motorcycle riding around Berkeley, probably going around a corner. It had this sense of urgency. So when I got home, I went up to that room and married the urgency of going somewhere to that riff. And I made a whole song out of, We dont know where were going, but were on our way. Yknow, the way all kids feel just immortal.

The band was scheduled to go to Europe in March 1970. But I didnt have those two songs finished. I had already scheduled time at a studio for the next week, so that weekend I had to come up with the two songs. That Monday morning, I said to myself, re a songwriter. I had done what to me was impossible, which was, with a gun pointed to my temple, Id finished those two songs. So I got em recorded, then left for Europe.

Also from Cosmos Factory: Out My Back Door b/w Long As I Can See The Light (August 1970, peak US chart position 2)

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN? b/w HEY TONIGHT
Released: January 1971 (peak US chart position 8)
From: Pendulum (December 1970)
When we first signed with Fantasy, Saul had promised that if there was ever success, wed get a bigger piece of the pie. And all of us that were family [laughs] I mean band members remembered that. So it was decided I should go talk to Saul. Saul slammed the door in my face. We were supremely unhappy after that.

Just before Pendulum was gonna be recorded, the other three guys called a meeting, and they insisted on a democracy that everybody could write songs and sing, and everybody would have a vote. From the background voices of Proud Mary, I had managed to keep that thing under control, but I couldnt any more. We recorded Pendulum under that cloud, and the song Have You Ever Seen The Rain? is basically describing that. Here we have a beautiful, wonderful sunny day that weve all been striving for, and now theres this big black cloud raining down on it.

Id been on such a roll. Then I remember thinking, My head hurts. I feel like my brain tissue is dry, like its dehydrated or something. What I was feeling was just stress. I felt so put-upon to make music while all this crap was goin on. I somehow came up with Hey Tonight in the middle of it all, but also a couple of duds. I was not able to function properly because of all the controversy. After Pendulum, the other guys hired a press agent, who arranged a huge party, and the other members chose this moment to describe their newfound freedom. re out from under Johns tyranny, was one of the quotes. I ended up calling this event The Night Of The Generals, because everybody was now a general; there were no more soldiers. It was a train wreck, and within two weeks, Tom left the band. There was no goin back after that. I said at one point, I run this band on nerves and willpower, because there was always this whole litany of jealousy and crap. It was like, God, were No 1 band in the world isnt this good enough?

The major break-up point was the other guys wanted to write songs. I finally caved in. But I knew it was the end of the band. Cause they wanted to write their very first song in the worlds No 1 rock band. Its ludicrous. But even now, I look back at how much stuff was done from May of 68 until the end of 1970. And the other guys at some points were my willing students, and at others my rebellious bandmates. Thats the journey we lived through. And while they were willing students, it was fun. Two of Fogertys three contributions to CCRs last album, Mardi Gras (April 1972), were released as singles: Sweet Hitchhiker (July 1971, peak US chart position 8), and Someday Never Comes (April 1972, peak US chart position 25). The band formally split up on October 16, 1972.

From www.johnfogerty.com
Thu, 23 Aug 2012 16:15:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/93661Wrote A Song For Everyone Coming in Early 2013
Wrote A Song For Everyone Coming in Early 2013

There is an amazing group of artists who have joined Fogerty in making this record - bringing their distinctive style to his songs. Here is an article written by No Depression (blog). We thought wed share it with you all.

"John Fogerty played the Telluride Bluegrass festival on a beautiful Friday evening so unusually warm that no fleece was necessary, even before the dancing started. He was wearing that plaid shirt hanging out over black jeans and shoes. The face is that face, plus a few years. The hair, however, is eternal Fogerty and Jackson Browne must have made deals with the devil somewhere along the way. Fogerty was all over the stage. He probably played 10 guitars during the evening and had a running battle with his guitar tech. At one point he laid a guitar on the side of the stage and went to the other side, pretending to strum until the tech brought a new guitar. Whatever was bothering him about his guitars didnt bother the audience one bit. He played great, living up to his billing as one of the great rock guitarists.

Fogertys voice is still that voice. It is loud and clear. Some younger singers (Fogerty turned 67 last month) have given up on the high notes, but Fogerty still hits them. He proved this several times during the 1 hour set, but never better than when he did Pretty Woman. Roy O. would have been proud. Fogertys band is impressive. The amps are turned up to 10 (I just couldnt do the 11 gag on this piece). We cheated and sat in the poser pit for this show (the press and VIP viewing area). On the way in, the pit manager warned us that they were loud and suggested earplugs. He also said, There will be dancing. He was right on both points. It was interesting watching the band watch Fogerty for cues. He rules on stage in a manner that reminds me of Van Morrison. It seemed that Fogertys strongest connection on stage was with his drummer, a badass behind glass who beat the drums so hard I wondered if they might fall apart. Keyboards are great, though this is a guitar show. Fogerty is joined by joined by two guitarists who could play for anybody and a bass player whos dialed in completely. [Apologies here for no band names. Field reporting is like this sometimes, though it would be great if Fogertys website had a page on his band.]

The best way to sum up Fridays show is this: Fogerty and his amazing band played the songs, and played them well. There are so many, and now that he will do the catalogue, all the Creedence, he just finishes one and starts another before you can catch your breath. Ive read that some shows include an entire CCR album and then a survey of the rest of the material, but given the limitations of a festival set, he just went right to the meat and potatoes on Friday night. I have to be honest, though: Going in, I thought that maybe we could write this off as a victory lap, a legacy gig, you know the drill. Two or three songs in, I knew that was bullshit. Its not like that. As if Fogerty knew what some of us were thinking, he covered Rick Nelsons Garden Party. It is all right now. I learned my lesson well. Fogerty doesnt phone anything in. And on this night, he pleased us. I hope he pleased himself - it sure looked like he did.

The CCR songs are great. These are some of the cornerstones in the foundation of rock roll (I guess the rock roll foundation would have to have more than four corners for that analogy to work, but Im not changing it. This is field reporting.) As good as those songs were on records, eight tracks, cassettes back in the day, they are so much better right here, right now. Midnight Special stands out to me as type this, but The Old Man Down The Road, Born On The Bayou and Fortunate Son (done during the encore along with Proud Mary) were also highlights. Have You Ever Seen The Rain might have been the moment of the evening as Fogerty introduced it by explaining its origins in sadness and the way its meaning has changed for him and others over the years. The crowd, which was on its feet for the entire show, really dug Centerfield as he played it with a baseball bat guitar. Put me in coach, Im ready to play. Today.

Telluride is a big, storied stage that is rarely overshadowed by the men and women who play on it. But occasionally a show transcends even this beautiful place. It happened when David Byrne played here, for example. Friday nights show was in that category. There was something about it, like a piata full of really good stuff, priceless stuff, when you were expecting only a few pieces of candy. Instead of crawling around on the ground to pick it up youre dancing as the really good stuff, the priceless stuff, is delivered to your ears, your mind and your heart. Kudos here to Planet Bluegrass for making Fogerty a part of this years festival.

It was the kind of concert experience where youre not sure what to do when its over. Your ears are ringing a bit, youre exhausted, exhilarated, amazed. As we picked up the chairs and the tarp to begin the trek to the condo, my daughter, whos a college senior, came walking up with that look on her face. She and her brother were completely blown away by the experience. She said she sang along and danced the entire show. Bravo, John Fogerty."

To read the story and check out the blog go to nodepression.com

From www.johnfogerty.com
Mon, 25 Jun 2012 18:29:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/85171Telluride - As its Happening!
Check out the live clip from Telluride below:

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sat, 23 Jun 2012 14:17:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/84971John Records "Proud Mary" With Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson is the latest superstar to join the legendary John Fogerty on a collaboration of his Proud Mary to be featured on Fogertys upcoming release Wrote a Song for Everyone on October 9th. He's very enthusiastic and I really think he's going to have a great career in music and show business.

How did you pick the song you guys sang and put the arrangement together?
There was a list of a few songs and I wanted to do "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," even though they had done it recently. For some reason they have done a lot of my songs the last couple of months, which is a coincidence, but I loved it. So we had to avoid those, and we came up with "Bad Moon Rising."

Have you been watching Idol much this season? What performances have you liked?
I have a ten-year-old daughter, and she loves the show and she picks her own favorites. I know she loved Hollie.

As a music veteran, what advice would you give to people like Jessica and Phillip?
They are both really talented. I think they are going to do really well in show business. My first mantra is practice. Get really good at what you're trying to do.

If you were just staring out today, would you audition for a show like this?
Absolutely. It would sure be a way to get to the front of the door real quick. Yeah, I would knock on those doors.

What song would you sing?
I'd probably end up doing something like "Midnight Hour." I don't know if that's the right thing to say these days.

Check out the full article via Rollingstone.com here

From www.johnfogerty.com
Thu, 24 May 2012 11:00:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/80721Behind The Scenes at American Idol
Check out this short behind the scenes video of John being interviewed at American Idol

From www.johnfogerty.com
Wed, 23 May 2012 20:20:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/80641'American Idol' Finale
'American Idol' Finale: John Fogerty, Neil Diamond, Reba McEntire, Fantasia-Mantasia Mash-Up to Close Out Season.

The tribute-heavy night will also feature appearances by Nelly Furtado, Jordin Sparks, Gloria Gaynor, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Kristin Chenoweth.

The American Idol season 11 finale will feature several tributes, which should come as little surprise considering the number of celebrity deaths in the news of late.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that this years female finalists will pay homage to the late Donna Summer while the boys will honor the recently departed Robin Gibb with the songs of the Bee Gees.
Helping the contestants translate the Summers classic songbook (the disco queen appeared on the season 7 finale) to a group performance with '70s icons Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston and Gladys Knight joined by Nelly Furtado, Sheila E., Jennifer Holliday and, of course, the Season 11 girls (later in the show, they perform with Chaka Khan). The remakes will be released this fall on Fogerty's ninth LP, Wrote a Song for Everyone. "Some people think, 'Well, that's country and this is rock,'" says Fogerty. "I never worried about that."

What inspired you to take on this project?

I think it was an idea from my wife Julie. I can't remember the exact moment, but she mentioned something about working with other artists or having them do my songs. It's a little foggy to me what the exact conversation was, but I know I thought, "Wow." I don't tend to walk around thinking like a commercial pop musician. I think more like a musician that loves to play music. So I saw it as a great opportunity to play with some of my favorite artists.

I'm in the middle of recording it now, but it is coming out in the fall. It took a while to find a home for this project, but I'm happy to see we're on Vanguard Records.

Tell me about working with the Foo Fighters.

We'd talked about doing something together for a long time, and this was the perfect excuse. What a great band. Without even meeting everybody, there was something in the atmosphere in the building they had their own complex it was outstanding to be there and play music that day.

We cut "Fortunate Son." It's not wildly different or exotically different from the original, but energy-wise it's a lot closer to what the Foo Fighters sound like, just the swagger of thing, The original record was made in 1970 and that was before any sort of metal. People tend to say that Creedence was a roots rock and roll band, I don't know that that was really true, but 40 years later it seems like a good fit. Led Zeppelin was just getting going, and the volume hadn't really been turned way up yet the way it would be a little later with arena bands of the Seventies and Eighties.

What does your new version of "Who Will Stop the Rain" with Bob Seger sound like?

Well, Bob is one of my favorite all-time singers. He still sounds great. He's a really lovely person, a very sweet guy. Maybe when you hear that growly voice you might think he's some kind of a grizzly bear or something but he's a very nice man. I heard him sitting in a little corner, strumming his guitar and singing "Who Will Stop the Rain?" He just sounded so great, he almost sort of inflicted an arrangement choice almost immediately. It was sort of spontaneous. I said, "We gotta hear what you're doing right now at some point in how we're treating this song." So that's certainly part of the arrangement.

You just played at Coachella with the Black Keys. How was that?

It was really fun. I'm hoping that the Black Keys will record a track. They've agreed, but it's hard to find a spot in their schedule.

Years and years ago when their first album had been out a little while, I was on the road somewhere and I was at a mall with my wife. I wandered into one of those gadget stores like Sharper Image or whatever, and I heard this wonderful music being played. I just figured it must be an old blues guy. I was really expecting the next cut to be Tony Bennett or Barbra Streisand, but the next song was also bluesy and raw. It sounded to me like Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters. I was very intrigued, and I had to know what the heck [it was]. So I said, "What is this music that's playing?" And it was actually a kid, about 20, he said," I'm glad you like that; that's the Black Keys." I went home, got their album off Amazon, and I've been a huge fan ever since.

A few days before the second weekend of Coachella, they invited me to sing "The Weight" with them in honor of Levon Helm. I had to run over there quickly on the way from L.A. to Coachella, trying to learn all the words. I never quite really knew what "The Weight" was all about. And now that I've listened to the track 900 times, I have to say I know even less what it's about.

I think it's pretty biblical. Yeah, it's a very unusual song. All the choices of words that Robbie usedthere's almost no connection between the verses. It's imagery without an actual story. It has cool characters and cool phrases. Anyway, I memorized it the best I could and got up onstage with that sort of chaos and adrenaline, and we kind of let it fly with our version of "The Weight."

I spoke with you last year, and you said that you weren't completely opposed to the idea of a Creedence reunion. Do you still feel that way?

I was asked that in an interview last year, and I just gave an honest answer. It wasn't anything I had actually premeditated or thought ahead of time. I just know that when the interviewer asked me, I sort of realized I didn't have that reaction that I used to have all the time. And so I quite innocently said, "Yeah I guess it's a possibility," you know in other words, I guess I've grown or moved or mellowed, whatever it is. I've always hoped that that would happen so you're not walking around with your brain going ag 90 mph working on some thing 40 years in the past that's not gonna change anyway.

So I blurted out whatever I blurted out. Yeah, I still feel the same way. I have since seen a couple of things that the other two guys from the old band have said in the press. [Creedence bassist Stu Cook said, "Leopards don't change their spots. This is just an image-polishing exercise by John."] Oh well. I guess they're still mad. That doesn't change how I feel. It kind of isn't affecting me anymore.

What's important is this wonderful life I have in front of me right here. I even have grandchildren. When you're looking at the world that way, worrying over if somebody knocked over a saltshaker 47 years ago, that's kind of stupid. So that's kind of where I'm at.

I see that you're doing some more of those complete album shows in Canada. Are you going to keep doing those?

Yeah, that turned out to be a really wonderful idea. Most of the albums are in the running, expect for maybe that very last one by Creedence. I never really enjoyed that one too much. It was certainly made under difficult emotions and circumstances. There are also a few albums in my solo career that have stood the test of time. So the concept, it's interesting. I think I have learned that there is a difference between what you do in a place like the Beacon and what you do when you walk out in an arena. Even though they may have expected an album show, it's a whole different kind of frame of mind and you have to tailor things to that. And it's simple enough to say that a theater show is gonna be more intimate than an arena show it just is by nature.

This is sort of random, but I've talked to all sorts of people who are convinced you were actually born and raised in Louisiana. Do you get that a lot?

Oh yeah, I had that even in the old days. I had guys my age that I've met in the Eighties or Nineties who are musicians and folks from there. They go, "Yeah he's up by Lake Charles. No he's down by Thibodaux." And so the myth carried on through the years just because I mentioned so many local or colloquial places in the songs. What really happened is that I used a setting like New Orleans, but I would actually be talking about thing from my own life. Certainly a song like "Green River" which you may think would fit seamlessly into the Bayou vibe, but it's actually about the Green River, as I named it it was actually called Putah Creek by Winters, California. It wasn't called Green River, but in my mind I always sort of called it Green River. All those little anecdotes are part of my childhood, those are things that happened to me actually, I just wrote about them and the audience shifted at the time and place.

Click here for the full article by Andy Greene for Rolling Stone

From www.johnfogerty.com
Fri, 04 May 2012 10:55:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/76441John Fogerty with Dave Grohl in Mojo!

From www.johnfogerty.com
Fri, 04 May 2012 09:35:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/76421Photo From Yesterday

From www.johnfogerty.com
Thu, 03 May 2012 09:15:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/76261Tweets from John
If you don't already follow John on Twitter - you should! @john_fogerty

Here's two from today:

"Nice to see the song I wrote in 69, is still so meaningful and played so well, great job Skyler! - John Fogerty@slaineAI11"

and

"My Proud Mary and Fortunate Son sung by the Rock and Roll Girls. As leader of CCR, Fogerty forged a distinctive, groundbreaking sound all his own, equal parts blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, swamp boogie, and Southern fried rock roll, all united by his uniquely evocative lyrical perspective.

From 1968 to 1971, Creedence Clearwater Revival unleashed an incredible succession of hit singles and platinum certified albums that remains unparalleled in the annals of rock roll history. Their expansive cover of Suzie Q was followed by a stunning series of Fogerty-penned favourites that dominated rock and pop radio, including Proud Mary, Down On The Corner, Born On The Bayou, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, and what remains the definitive anti-war anthem, Fortunate Son.

After Creedence Clearwater Revival called it quits in 1972, Fogerty embarked on what would prove to be an equally impressive solo career. Among its many highlights are 1975s JOHN FOGERTY featuring the rollicking All Over The World and 1985s #1 phenomenon, With its trio of timeless hit singles, including The Old Man Down The Road, Rock And Roll Girls, and the irresistible title track, the multi-platinum collection marked Fogertys glorious return to the forefront of modern rock roll.

1997s BLUE MOON SWAMP earned Fogerty further acclamation, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Among his many other honors are induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the BMI Pop Music Awards prestigious BMI Icon, and Performance Magazines Theater Tour of the Year Award. In addition, Fogerty and were honored during the 2010 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies the first time the National Baseball Hall of Fame has immortalized a musician or song as part of the annual ceremonies.

Having made infrequent live appearances in the 90s, by 2004 he had made a full-throated return to the road, including the MoveOn.org-sponsored Vote For Change tour and his first series of European dates in more than three decades. Other live highlights include 2009s 25th Anniversary Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Benefit Concerts at Madison Square Garden (which saw him performing alongside Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band) and a stellar main stage set at 2010s Bonnaro Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Still going strong, Fogerty and his always electrifying backing band bring it each time they step upon a stage, performing his mind-blowing body of work to generation after generation of adoring fans.

Look out for Johns new album, Wrote A Song For Everyone coming this fall and featuring newly recorded classics from his timeless catalog as well as brand new songs, performed alongside todays biggest superstars.

Opening for Fogerty on all the dates across Canada will be American rock n roll band, Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real.

Do not miss this very special event!

JOHN FOGERTY : TOUR DETAILS
With Special Guests: Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real

September 8 - Mile One Centre - St Johns, NFLD
September 10 - Halifax Metro Centre Halifax, NS
September 11 - Moncton Coliseum Complex Moncton, NB
September 13 John Labatt Centre London, ON
September 14 Sony Centre Toronto, ON
September 15 General Motors Centre Oshawa, ON
September 17 Sudbury Arena Sudbury, ON
September 18 Essar Centre Sault Ste. And so it was when rock legend John Fogerty joined Friday night's headliners the Black Keys to pay tribute to Levon Helm, who died Thursday from cancer.

Black Keys singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach called Helm, who was the drummer and a singer of the Band, "amazing and inspiring," and performed a soulful cover of "The Weight" with Fogerty. Earlier in the day another Helm tribute was made as the punk band Refused taped "RIP Levon Helm" to their bass drum.

The gesture by the Black Keys was touching and fitting in a set packed with explosive and gritty roots rock, including hits "I Got Mine" and "Lonely Boy."

Watching the band's two core members, which also includes drummer Patrick Carney, it was striking to think of how far they have come -- skyrocketing from a niche duo with limited appeal to a powerful festival headliner. Their sound was given extra heft by bassist Gus Seyffert, who joins them on tour and can be seen around L.A. fronting his own band Willoughby (who are worth checking out, by the way).

It's interesting to note that a band like the Black Keys that traffics in raw, bluesy instrumentalism can draw an ecstatic crowd in the same festival culture that is currently harboring a near-fanatical devotion to electronic music. In fact, when Swedish House Mafia took to the main stage after the Black Keys, the field became as packed as it was for last Sunday's Snoop Dogg-athon.

Still, in this reporter's mind, the night belonged to the Black Keys -- and to Helm.

Click here for the full article by Jessica Gelt for The LA Times

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sat, 21 Apr 2012 12:45:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/73631Video: The Black Keys & John Fogerty “Levon Helm Tribute” @ Coachella
The Black Keys were joined on stage by John Fogerty to pay tribute to The Bands Levon Helm who succumbed to throat cancer this week. The festival has grown from a simple two-day festival to a massive five-day juggernaut with over 83 artists playing across five stages. It has been reported that over 87,000 punters attended the annual festival over its five-day duration. I will add that five days is a hell of a long time to keep in the festival mindset and yes it is draining! From a business perspective it was a very well run festival, with numerous shuttle buses coming and going to and from the event. Day tickets cost $160 or you can purchase a ticket for the whole five-day festival for $695AUD. The music ranged from Blues, Ska, Reggae to rock with the likes of Buddy Guy, The Specials and Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. So yes a very varied line-up. Not just for blues and roots enthusiasts.

This did have its pros and cons waiting around to see a couple of keys acts everyday whilst not being interested in others can be a downer in some books. Albeit I still managed to have fun and discovered some new upcoming artists I probably would not have ever previously considered including standout performances from; Dallas Frasca, Dubmarine and Watussi, more on these acts at the end of this post

One key complaint was the lack of alcohol choice notably no cider options at all for the general punters whilst VIPs had access to Seeds cider. Whilst, yes alcohol was expensive that is to be expected at all festivals from my experience.

Choice of food was amazing, one of the best I have ever seen at the many festivals I have attended all over the world, yet it was excessively overpriced, a coffee at one place set my friend back $6AUD and it cost me the same for some hot chips!!! Absolutely crazy!

Its a pity police obviously have nothing better to do than harass a small number of harmless pot smokers. Police surely your time could be better-spent policing big-time drug dealers and corrupt local and national politicians?

Unlike most festivals I have had the pleasure of attending, all stages at the Blues and Roots Festival 2012 were within large tents along with a number of large eating areas. The two massive tents were amazing. As a result the being enclosed away from moving winds the quality of sounds was awesome.

Whilst yes I hear some of you complain about the fact you would have liked to have been able to look up into the stars as you favorite band was playing it is also important to ensure you the punter get the best quality sound. Im sure artists would prefer the best sound quality possible I could be wrong!

Parking at the festival was well organised. Location wise the event used to be held not far from the centre of town in Byron Bay. Apparently it moved out of town by ten or so kilometres a few years back, as locals complained about the noise and behaviour of the tourists who attend the festival. The irony being that Byrons economy has been suffering for a while and one would have thought making the event move out to its current site actual had the effect of taking tourist dollars away from Byron.

I went to the festival to specifically see a few key acts including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Earth Wind and Fire, The Specials, Zappa Plays Zappa and physcadelic legends Yes. Sadly I was not that impressed by most of them, and perhaps my expectations were a little high considering the age of some of these artists. I was informed the last time Yes toured Australia was 40 years ago in 1972. Yet despite being 75 years of age Buddy Guy still managed to play a blinding set. Once again though reviewing artists is such a subjective thing and the above is my opinion only.

However, I was blown away by Melbourne three-piece Dallas Frasca who reportedly recently turned down a license deal with Sony Music Australia will definitely look forward to seeing them again it was an awesome way to start Fridays proceedings. I was surprised that I actually was quite blown away John Fogerty he rocked.

Dubmarine with indigenous singer and front man D-Kazman along with a trombones and thumping base was an incredible mix of hip-hop, ska and electro and it just rocked!!! And finally South American inspired rock and roots band Watussi played a thumping set.

Would I attend again? Most definitely! However I would probably selected two and possibly a maximum of three days from the five. Ive already booked my flights so see you there next year!!!

Check out the full article by Jakomi Mathews for The Music Void here

From www.johnfogerty.com
Wed, 11 Apr 2012 14:55:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/71461John Fogerty And His 4th-Grader Daughter Performing Taylor's Mean
Just a quickie for you... (as posted on Country Weekly) When former Creedence Clearwater Revival star invited his daughter on stage to perform a song with him in concert, it wasn't "Down On The Corner", it wasn't "Suzy Q", it wasn't "Bad Moon Rising" either. No, it seems that, 4th grader, Kelsy Fogerty likes a little country with her rock-n-roll.

During a show in Australia, Fogerty accompanied his little princess on a version of Taylor Swift's "Mean".

From www.johnfogerty.com
Tue, 10 Apr 2012 17:25:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/71221Fans Say 2012 Bluesfest The Best One Yet
Who stopped the rain? The driest Byron Bay Bluesfest in memory wrapped up on Monday night with prog rock pioneers Yes (of Owner of a Loney Heart and Starship Trooper fame) and funk master Maceo Parker (of Prince, James Brown, Michael Jackson fame) hitting the event's final (high) notes.

Sonically, the quality of Bluesfest 2012 headliners Cold Chisel's opening-night show set the standard for five days of great music. In fact, many in the crowd rated the standard and consistency of this year's acts the best in the event's 23-year history.

If anyone came close to matching Chisel's magical mix over the weekend it was the obviously rejuvenated, reinspired Creedence Clearwater Revival songsmith John Fogerty.

Boasting a rocking guitar style still loaded with swank, Fogerty's absolute delight to be playing his finest works again for an exuberant, appreciative audience for the first time in decades was obvious.

His Monday night show in the Mojo Tent, his second of the weekend, was an equally as skillfull but very different roots rock performance to his full-moon stand on Saturday.

It began with a start-to-finish delivery of classic album Green River, which includes the tracks Bad Moon Rising, Lodi (Low-die), The Night Time Is the Right Time and the title track, before ripping into a swag of singalong Credence classics.

Fogerty, 67, threw Susie Q and a cover of Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman into the mix this time, alongside encore renditions of audience favourites Fortunate Son and Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

But wait! There was more. Hey Tonight, Born On The Bayou, Who'll Stop The Rain, Hot Rod Heart, Don't You Wish It Was True, Midnight Special, Gunslinger, Keep On Chooglin', Down On The Corner, Old Man Down The Road, Travelin' Band, Rockin' All Over The World and Proud Mary were all there too in a set list that was surely as good as it gets.

''I was gone for a long time. I refused to play these songs for years but I'm over that now, thanks Julia,'' Fogerty said in a shout-out to his wife, standing side of stage.

Fans also raved about Monday shows by Tribali and Dubmarine on the Jambalaya Stage and Canadian outfit Great Big Sea, who drew a large and loyal crowd for their ''must-see'' second show on the bigger Crossroads Stage.

John Butler Trio drummer Nicky Bomba's rousing, 25-piece collective Melbourne Ska Orchestra brought the house down with a mighty stand in the Jambalaya Tent. Regulars on the Bluesfest bill, you can be sure they'll be back by popular demand again and again.

Audiences also gave Rosie Ledet an A for her zydeco set on the Jambalaya Stage, her band's washboard player moving many in the audience to get up and dance.

Fans praised each other for observing the no-smoking in tents rule and event organisers for weather-proofing the grounds with new roads and walkways. A new system to ensure chairs are only used at the back of the main Crossroads and Mojo Tents generally worked well.

An army of 500 workers oversaw the 80,000 people who streamed through the festival gates across five days. Friday, Saturday and Sunday tickets sold out, while some 4500 punters camped on-site.

Organisers were thrilled with the number of patrons who took up the $299 Early Bird offer for tickets for the 2013 festival as they headed home, while festival director Peter Noble says plenty of this year's acts have already expressed interest in returning soon.

Check out the full article by Suzanne Simont for goldcoast.com.au here

From www.johnfogerty.com
Tue, 10 Apr 2012 15:30:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/71181Fogerty, Full Moon Delight at Bluesfest

John Fogerty and a brilliant full moon were the stars of Day 3 of the 23rd annual Byron Bay Bluesfest on Saturday.

The Mojo Tent was the preferred venue for most punters as the full moon rose over Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm but several Saturday sets were again marred by sound dramas.

Seasick Steve and Brian Setzer's Rockabilly Riot! both endured production problems during their sets in the Mojo Tent. Like Buddy Guy on Good Friday, both handled the dramas with grace and professionalism. These things happen -- but they're happening too often and taking too long to fix.

Fortunately, the problems were rectified before Saturday night headliner John Fogerty took the stage to perform Credence Clearwater Revival album Cosmo's Factory from start to finish.

The 1970 album boasts wonderful tracks including Lookin' out My Back Door, Travelin' Band, Ooby Dooby, Run Through the Jungle, Who'll Stop The Rain and Heard It Through the Grapevine.

The ecstatic crowd could happily have turned on its heels after hearing the masterful album but Fogerty wasn't done yet. Beaming and obviously thrilled with the audience's response, he then ripped his way through a selection of the Creedence's ridiculously rich treasure trove of classics including Born on The Bayou, Proud Mary, Midnight Special, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.

For decades, Fogerty -- the man behind Credence's unique vocals and rocking guitar sound -- steadfastly refused to perform the band's catalogue as part of a royalties dispute. But that was then. And he is now.

''I met a beautiful girl called Julia -- she's standing over there -- and it's because of her I'm standing here singing these songs for you,'' Fogerty told the crowd, before a heartfelt rendition of Long as I Can See the Light.

Fogerty returns to the stage on Monday night to perform another classic Credence album, 1969's Green River, from start to finish for what is sure to be a wonderful finale to the five-day festival.

Other standouts on Day 3 included Bluesfest regular Angelique Kidjo, French multi-instrumentalist Yann Tierson (who backed up again today), the David Bromberg Quartet and the rocking Joanne Shaw Taylor, who plays the Crossroads Stage again on Monday.

Click here for the full article by Suzanne Simonot on goldcoast.com.au

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sun, 08 Apr 2012 18:25:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/70501Fogerty's Clear Revival

If Bluesfest is about musical authenticity, John Fogerty's set on Saturday night was a rolled gold example of what it means to be a musical legend.

The 67-year-old Fogerty and his five-piece band hit the ground running, launching into Ramble Tamble, the swamp boogie workout that is the lead track of Cosmo's Factory - one of Creedence Clearwater Revival's greatest albums.

John Fogerty was the lead singer and main songwriter of Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band that peaked from 1969 through to 1972.

Seen as southern rock stylists, the band combined rootsy country rock with politically aware lyrics.

The band's career petered out in the mid-70s but the music has remained popular, selling 26 million albums.

Saturday's audience was mostly baby boomers there to see Creedence at their peak, but some of the audience jammed into the MOJO tent were 20-somethings, born way after Creedence were in their prime.

John, a 28 year old from Sydney said, "If you love good music it's inevitable that you'll find Creedence's music. A lot of bands are just marketing; this guy is just so authentic."

In two hours -Fogerty played the legendary 1970 album Cosmos Factory then rolled out the other big songs.

Fogerty spent many years in the 1970s and 80s refusing to play his Creedence hits after disputes with former band members, managers and record companies, but these days he embraces his back catalogue, each night playing one of the classic albums track by track, followed by all his other hits.

At the end of Ramble Tamble, Fogerty gestured to the side of the stage for the volume of his guitar to be cranked up and then ripped into the album's subsequent tracks including Before you Accuse Me.

He seems to enjoy hearing the songs as much as anyone in the audience does.

His voice is still as sharp and powerful as ever and his guitar playing still elicits gasps from the rapturous crowd.

In the frenetic Keep on Choog- ling, he handed a lesson to all other would-be bluesmen on the art of blues harp and guitar playing.

The songs have never been off the radio and have never ceased to be a reference point for the musicians who came after them.

Fogerty kept his patter brief, but he stopped along the way to tell how the classic Who'll Stop the Rain came about.

"I went to Woodstock and saw a lot of wet and stoned people dancing," he said. "I left there and headed back to California and wrote a song about it."

Like most of Fogerty's songs it is deceptively simple, both musically and lyrically, but the song has always connected with the audience on a deeper level.

It tells a tale of a deep malaise within society that neither politics nor money can cure and all this is wrapped up in the simple metaphor of the unending rain falling on us all.

This combination of a simple memorable lyric connecting to a much deeper meaning is repeated in most of Fogerty's songs.

It's the one of the reasons his music is seen as being relevant and vital today.

Throughout the set Fogerty moved back and forth across the stage, revelling in the audience's joyous response to his music.

For an hour after playing Cosmo's Factory the big songs just kept on rolling.

He led the audience through a seemingly endless list of great songs including Bad Moon Rising, Willie and the Poor Boys, Fortunate Son, Midnight Special and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.

The whole show climaxed with a rousing version of Proud Mary during the encore and the audience departed under the light of an almost-full moon.

John Fogerty plays Green River in its entirety on the MOJO stage tonight at 6pm.

Click here for the full article by Christian Morrow for the Fraser Coast Chronicle

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sun, 08 Apr 2012 18:10:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/70491Set Lists From Australia
SET LISTS:

March 27th 2012 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne

March 29th 2012 - Adelaide Entertainment Centre - Adelaide

April 1st 2012 - West Coast Blues N' Roots - Perth

April 3rd 2012 - Sydney Entertainment Centre - Sydney

April 5th 2012 - Brisbane Entertainment Centre - Brisbane

April 7th 2012 - Byron Bay Blues Fest - Byron Bay

April 9th 2012 - Byron Bay Blues Fest - Byron Bay

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sun, 08 Apr 2012 18:00:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/70481Thank You Australia!

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sun, 08 Apr 2012 09:00:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/70471Fans stay up late with Fogerty

JOHN Fogerty proved he still has it in a rocking two-hour Bluesfest closer last night.

The 66-year-old credited his partner Julie Lebiedzinski with his return to the Creedence Clearwater Revival songs he did not sing for many years.

The former CCR front man played the entire Cosmo's Factory album - including the seminal I Heard It Through the Grapevine - before launching into other classics including Born on the Bayou and Lodi.

Fogerty switched back and forth between four electric guitars and two acoustic guitars.

Donning a glittering green guitar and matching green and black suit, Brian Setzer and his Rockabilly Riot band primed the crowd for a night of guitar-heavy rock.

On the Crossroads stage, Angelique Kidjo won best dance moves of the night with an electrifying performance.
The Beninoise singer finished her set by inviting punters on stage to dance with her and her bongo player.

Earlier in the day festival goers enjoyed sets by American blues man Steve Earle and Gold Coast locals Tijuana Cartel.

Today's Easter Sunday bill is headlined by Bluesfest favorites John Butler Trio, Irish punk band The Pogues and Jonny Lang.

Click here for the full article by Seanna Cronin for The Fraser Coast Chronicle

From www.johnfogerty.com
Sat, 07 Apr 2012 18:25:00 -0700http://www.johnfogerty.com/news/70431John Fogerty with Special Guest Kelsy Fogerty!
During a recent stop on the "Lookin' Out My Back Door" Tour of Australia John was joined on stage by his daughter Kelsy for a special version of "Mean".
