Did John Meet Paul in London??

Sun, Jul 15, 2012 at 7:05 PM

Two quick questions:

1. Did John finally meet Paul McCartney at the Hyde Park concert? Both he and Paul joined Bruce on Bruce's set, but John's appearance appeared to have been several hours before Paul joined Bruce for the last song.

2. Was John's work at Abbey Road Studios for a song on "Wrote a Song for Everyone"? I can only presume that it was. Soooo... was John there to record a new duet with an as-yet-unnamed artist? Could it be, I don't know... Paul???

I Have No Answer About That Dana . . .

But there have been numerous rumors swirling around
that John and July had tea with Her Majesty the Queen...

Hi Dana, don't know the answers to question number one, but it is very well possible.
About number two I can say that John's voice is not in a shape to record a song right now.
I heard him singing at Hyde Park , and trust me, it wasn't possible to record a song during the time he spent in London . Also I thought that all of the stuff for the new album was already recorded by now,
otherwise the release date from October 8 will not be possible anymore.
I also saw some titles of the newly written songs somewhere, guess you saw them too.
Off to the last concert of this tour in a few hours. Didn't have time to write a lot during this tour as I was driving or "trying" to sleep most of the free time I had :-)

I have to change my mind already,
John did record "Lodi" yesterday in the Abbey Road studios,
so my guess is that it's either together with Paul Mc Cartney, or with Bruce Springsteen ....
I'm happy John's voice could handle the song...
I was really worried about it...
Off to the last show of the tour in a couple of hours...

    hi all
It would be great if john fogerty and sir paul mccartney did a duet especially at abbey road studios ,don`t forget john has done a song with bruce on the blue ridge rangers rides again album. i wonder if john had his photo taken on the famous crossing outside abbey road studios. If my memory serves me well didn`t sir paul mccartney and a certain eric clapton attend the creedence royal albert hall gig in 1970?

I have a little bit more information right now.
John recorded indeed "Lodi" at the Abbey Road studios, but not with Paul and not with Bruce.
Since John's voice was not in a very good shape his voice will probably added to the song later on in the studio .
John recorded "Lodi" with two special guests. You'll find it out later who they are ,
but I can tell you they were probably blown away by the fact that they could record a song in the Abbey Road studios :-)

Based strictly on Robert's most recent comments, presuming he has some inside info, my first guess would be that John's two special guest artists at Abbey Road studios were... his sons Shane & Tyler.

Otherwise my three guesses would have been as follows:

-- Bruce Springsteen - Since we know that John had planned to be in London with Bruce at this time. And "Lodi" seems to me like a song most suited to Bruce.

-- Paul McCartney - Maybe Bruce 'brokered a deal' between John and Paul to get together in the studio? If so, this poses the tantalizing possibility that Both Paul and Bruce may have joined John. I cannot imagine radio not jumping all over a studio recording featuring Paul, Bruce and John!!

-- Pete Townshend - During John's set in Hyde Park, he referred to Bruce as "The Pete Townshend of our generation". (I thought Pete Townshend was IN John's generation? lol) We also know that John knows Pete from a photo taken backstage at a Who concert at the Hollywood Bowl.

I'm happy for the actual guest artists, but wouldn't John, Paul & Bruce have been one of the greatest supergroup recordings of all time?!!!

I was going to guess that the two special guests were Robert and Petra singing backup. I believe that Lodi is one of Miss Hoodoo's favorite songs.

As for John meeting Paul in London, I always thought they met in Liverpool.

Actually he referred to Bruce as the Hank Thompson of his generation...

I agree with Robert, Fogerty will probably dub his voice in later.

Too tired from yardwork to write more.......it could be it was just a thrill to record in Apple studios, too. Just to stand there must be heavenly.

Hey Micio - Yes, I listened again and it appears that John did compare Bruce to "Hank Thompson" and not Pete Townshend. I can only think that it's an inside joke between John and Bruce. Bruce has several times described John as "the Hank Williams of our generation". But Hank Thompson seems an odd choice to compare Bruce too, since I don't think he was anywhere near an artist of Bruce's stature. Another question to ask of John someday, I guess...

But anyway folks - Back to my original question: Has anyone heard of any confirmation that JCF met Paul McCartney this weekend?

If he didn't, all I can say is that it was an astoundingly missed opportunity for both of them.
