Fogerty, went to a ball game last night, CENTERFIELD played between batters, but
We went to a River Cats game last night. Great time had by all, but check this out! 100 percent true, God's honest truth:
I got to pitch the 9th Inning and EARNED THE SAVE! True! By some fluke, the team ran out of pitchers and I won a contest to pitch the 9th!
It was hilarious. Haven't pitched in so long, my "fast ball" came in at 51 MPH!!!! Fifty-frapping-one MPH!!! I had batters swinging at pitches that landed 7 feet IN FRONT OF home plate! My "change-up," once billed as, "a hellaciously fat pitch that just disappears before a batter's eyes," came in at 49 MPH!!!!! I only threw two because I was worried I'd require Tommy John surgery! SERIOUS!
Had the last batter down to 3-2. A full count in a 4-3 ballgame. I was so nervous. I rosin'd up my hands, wiped the sweat off my brow, flagged down a ballgirl and had her get me a cup o' joe and a dog, ATE IT ON THE MOUND, then put some mustard on the final pitch.
I wound up, it was the only curve I threw all night. I released it. It sailed straight and true. I could see the batter pick up the spin. He lifted his front foot, started his swing, and had his eyes set firmly on the fences.
WHAT DID I DO?
The pitch landed in Section 105! The batter was so certain he'd nail that fat offering, he committed and STRUCK OUT ON A WILD PITCH!
And that, my friends, is how I made AAA baseball history and became the oldest man to "Earn a Save."

Not bad Johnny. I went to Arizona for spring training to watch a Dodger Giant game. We walked by this area where they clocked your pitch. I looked at my wife and said hey I can probably throw 75 mph, she looked at me and said give it a try so I did. Well 61 was my top speed but I it looked like 75 mph to me. After many efforts it was still 61mph.Congratulations on your save maybe the Giants or A’s can use you they both have closer by committee. Great story

Re: Fogerty, went to a ball game last night, CENTERFIELD played between batters, but
The River Rat asked "What do these 2 posts have to do with this site???" Well my friend, other than mentioning Fogerty and Centerfield, not a whole lot. However, both of the posts were written by long time fans and supporters of Mr. Fogerty not to mention that JBG has been entertaining us with his anecdotes and haiku for years spanning multiple incarnations of the John Fogerty Forum. So rather than getting annoyed with his off-topic rantings, I say "Rock on JBG!!!" and keep the wit and haiku coming.
JBG's story made me reminisce about my glory days playing basketball in the 7th grade. I only got to play in one game but I made the most of my opportunity by not missing a shot and scoring half of my team's points. On one of the five or six times that we actually got the ball over half court, our center had the ball at the top of the key. Since I wasn't being guarded I decided it was time to become a power forward and left my second guard spot for the left corner. Our center passed me the ball then immediately yelled "don't shoot" to freeze the defender coming my way in his tracks. That gave me enough time to get my shot off--NOTHING BUT NET!!! The crowd ROARED in appreciation and for the next 4 or 5 seconds that it took me to showboat back down the court to play defense, I basked in the glory knowing that I would be one of the few lucky ones to retire from the game with a 100% shooting percentage from the floor even if we did get beat 178 - 4. And yes, that is a true story. There is no way I could make that up!
Rock on JBG! Rock on Bootleg! Rock on River Rat! And last but not least Rock on John Fogerty! Woohoo! -
