Creedence Clearwater Revival’s momentum in 1969 is not entirely without parallel in rock ’n’ roll history. Other artists have had feverishly productive years, too — but the list isn’t a long one.
The band released three multi-platinum albums that year: Bayou Country, which hit No. 7 on the Billboard chart, Green River, which topped it, and Willy and the Poor Boys, which reached No. 3. The indelible singles included Proud Mary, Born On the Bayou, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Green River, Commotion, Down on the Corner and Fortunate Son — all written and sung by John Fogerty, the group’s leader and lead guitarist.
