I spoke to John Fogerty, lead guitarist for the band Creedence Clearwater Revival, about how his upbringing in Berkeley contributed to his long term success, how the business of music has changed since he started, how he was able to recruit a strong team (band), what he learned as a solo artist and his best tips to today’s musicians.
John Fogerty had to be talked into writing his revealing new memoir -- Fortunate Son: My LIfe, My Music, which publishes on Tuesday.
"The push, or the incentive, really came from my wife (and manager) Julie," Fogerty tells Billboard. "I don't know that I would've kept at it had it been only my idea. The process was certainly a lot harder than I ever imagined...."
John Fogerty is as close as the U.S. gets to roll and roll royalty. With both his band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and as a solo act, Fogerty has singlehandedly provided the soundtrack to people’s lives for nearly 50 years.
John Fogerty has become the latest veteran music star to line up a Las Vegas residency. The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman will bring a show titled John Fogerty: Peace, Love and Creedence to The Venetian hotel and casino for a series of eight performances, running from January 8 to 23.
